Will Ospreay is the AEW World Champion. He beat Kenny Omega for the title in the main event of All In at Wembley Stadium in London on August 30, 2026, and kept it at WrestleDream in Orlando on October 17 by winning the first Clockwork Carnage match, a format he brought to AEW himself.

Ospreay is the 11th different man to hold the belt, and his is the 20th reign since 2019, with Moxley's interim run in 2022 kept separate.

How the title started

Bret Hart unveiled the belt at the first Double or Nothing in Las Vegas on May 25, 2019. That night set up the first title match. "Hangman" Adam Page won the Casino Battle Royale on the pre-show, Chris Jericho beat Kenny Omega in the main event, and the two winners were booked to meet at All Out.

Jericho won that match on August 31, 2019 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The next day police in Tallahassee reported that the physical belt had been stolen from his limousine. It was recovered on September 4, and Jericho went on to hold the title for 182 days before Jon Moxley beat him at Revolution in Chicago on February 29, 2020.

Moxley, Omega and the Punk mess

Omega took the title from Moxley on a Dynamite special in Jacksonville in December 2020 and kept it for 346 days. In April 2021 he carried it into a promotion that worked with AEW at the time, Impact Wrestling, and beat Rich Swann at Rebellion in a winner takes all match. For a few months he held two world titles at once. Page ended the run at Full Gear in Minneapolis in November 2021, cashing in the Casino Poker Chip he had won for a guaranteed title match.

2022 is the year that makes the list hard to read. CM Punk beat Page at Double or Nothing and then announced days later that he needed surgery on his foot. AEW kept him as champion and crowned Moxley interim champion at Forbidden Door on June 26. Moxley then beat Punk on Dynamite in Cleveland on August 24 to unify the two, Punk won it back at All Out 11 days later, and on September 7 the title was vacated after a real backstage fight that followed the All Out media scrum. Moxley won a tournament final against Bryan Danielson in Queens to start his third reign.

MJF to Ospreay

MJF won at Full Gear in Newark on November 19, 2022 by cashing in his own Casino chip, swapped the standard belt for a custom one with a Burberry pattern on the strap, and held the title for 406 days. Nobody else has reached a full year. Samoa Joe beat him at Worlds End on December 30, 2023, then lost it to Swerve Strickland at Dynasty in St. Louis. Danielson won it in a title versus career match at All In 2024 at Wembley, and Moxley ended that reign in Tacoma at WrestleDream seven weeks later.

The last 18 months have been crowded. Page won a Texas Deathmatch at All In in Arlington, Joe won a steel cage match at Full Gear, and MJF came back in a four-way at Worlds End in December 2025 using his Casino Gauntlet title shot. That was the start of a busy spell for MJF. Darby Allin beat him on April 15 in Everett, Washington, and MJF won it back at Double or Nothing in Queens on May 24 in a title versus hair match. Omega then beat MJF on July 8 in Clearwater, Florida in a last chance match, the stipulation being that Omega could not challenge again if he lost. MJF held on to his custom belt, and since returning at Grand Slam Mexico in August he has carried it around calling himself the one true champion. AEW does not recognize it.

Ospreay's reign so far

Ospreay got to Wembley by winning the 2026 Owen Hart Cup. Omega had beaten MJF for the title only 53 days before the All In main event on August 30. Ospreay won it in front of a reported crowd of 41,102, the same night Mercedes Moné took the Women's World Championship from Willow Nightingale.

His first big defense came at AEW's first show in France, on October 6 at the Adidas Arena in Paris, where he beat Kazuchika Okada with the Hidden Blade. We have the full card in our Grand Slam: France results. That win also put him into the Clockwork Carnage match at WrestleDream as champion.

Clockwork Carnage is part gauntlet and part iron man. Two men start, a new one comes in every three minutes, and anyone pinned or forced to submit before all eight are in is gone. After the last entrant arrives, there are 15 minutes in which every pin or submission scores a fall, and the man with the most falls when time runs out wins. Ospreay finished with three, the last of them a Hidden Blade on Adam Copeland just before the bell, with Samoa Joe, Okada, Darby Allin, Ricochet, Konosuke Takeshita and "Speedball" Mike Bailey also in the match. Copeland said afterward that he wants the title next.

AEW World Championship records

Moxley has the most reigns with four and the most combined days with 620, not counting his 59 days as interim champion. MJF is second on both lists, with three reigns and 560 days, and holds the longest single reign at 406. The shortest belongs to Punk, whose second reign lasted three days. Jericho is the oldest man to win the title, MJF the youngest.

Omega, Page, Punk and Joe have two reigns each. Jericho, Strickland, Danielson and Allin had one apiece, and Ospreay is on his first. He is also the first champion from outside North America, and this month he went back to New Japan with the AEW title, as we reported in his surprise return in Uonuma.
