Roman Reigns and Liv Morgan are the most recent Royal Rumble winners. Both won on January 31, 2026 at Riyadh Season Stadium in Saudi Arabia, the first traditional Rumble held outside North America. Reigns came in at number 26 and threw out Gunther last for his second win, 11 years after his first. Morgan entered at 14 and finished by eliminating Tiffany Stratton.

The men's match has run every year since 1988 and the women's since 2018, and both full lists of winners are below.

How the Royal Rumble match works

Thirty wrestlers draw numbers. The two who draw 1 and 2 start the match, and a new entrant comes out at a fixed interval, usually 90 seconds or two minutes, until all 30 are in. You are eliminated only when you go over the top rope and both feet touch the floor. Rolling under the bottom rope does not count, and neither does touching the floor with one foot, which is how Shawn Michaels hung on to win from number 1 in 1995. The last one left in the ring wins.

Pat Patterson gets the credit for the format. The first one was a 20-man match on January 24, 1988 at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, shown live and free on the USA Network the same night Jim Crockett Promotions ran a pay-per-view. Jim Duggan won it from number 13.

In 1994 Lex Luger and Bret Hart hit the floor together and were named co-winners. In 2005 Batista and John Cena went out at the same moment and the match was restarted, and Batista won the second time around. Wrestlers have been eliminated by people already out of the match. In 1999 McMahon and Austin both left the ring during the match and came back later, which is allowed because neither went over the top rope.

What the Royal Rumble winner gets

Since 1993 the winner has received a world title match at WrestleMania, and these days he or she gets to choose which one. A men's winner can go after the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw or the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown, whatever brand he is on, and a women's winner picks between the Women's World Championship and the WWE Women's Championship.

In 1992, the year before, the vacant WWF Championship itself went to the last man standing, and Ric Flair won it from number 3 after lasting 1:00:02, the first wrestler to stay in for more than an hour.

The shot can be lost before WrestleMania if the winner agrees to put it up. Triple H lost his to Kurt Angle at No Way Out in 2002 and won it back the next night on Raw. Rey Mysterio lost his to Randy Orton in 2006 and was later put back into the title match. John Cena went the other way in 2008 and cashed his shot early at No Way Out, winning by disqualification and so not getting the belt.

Of the nine women's winners, six left WrestleMania as champion. The most recent was Morgan, who beat Stephanie Vaquer for the Women's World Championship at WrestleMania 42 in April. Reigns took Raw's World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk in the main event of the second night.

Royal Rumble records

Steve Austin is the only three-time winner (1997, 1998 and 2001). Eleven men have won it more than once, and four of them did it in consecutive years: Hogan, Michaels, Austin and Rhodes. Charlotte Flair is the only woman with two wins, in 2020 and 2025.

Number 30 is the most common winning spot, and The Undertaker, Cena, Triple H, Lesnar and Rhodes all won from there. Winning from the start is rarer. Michaels, Benoit, Edge and Ripley won from number 1, and McMahon and Mysterio from number 2.

Gunther holds the record for time spent in a traditional 30-man Rumble at 1:11:40, set in 2023 when he drew number 1 and was the last man eliminated, by Rhodes. That broke Mysterio's 1:02:12 from 2006. Daniel Bryan lasted 1:16:05 in the 50-man match in 2018, which is usually listed apart. On the women's side the record is Roxanne Perez's 1:07:47 from 2025, and the 2025 men's match was the longest Rumble of all at 1:20:15.

Strowman (Jeddah, 2018) and Lesnar (2020) share the men's record for eliminations in one match with 13. Nia Jax set the women's mark of nine in 2025 after coming in at number 29. Lesnar also has the fastest win, 2:30 from entering at number 30 in 2022 to throwing out McIntyre, and he went 19 years between his two wins.

The 2026 matches in Riyadh

Charlotte Flair started the women's match at number 1 and lasted 59:49, longer than anyone in either match that night. Lash Legend had the most eliminations among the women with five. Morgan eliminated three, one of them her Judgment Day stablemate Raquel Rodriguez, on the way to a final three with Sol Ruca and Stratton.

In the men's match, Oba Femi drew number 1 and got rid of five people before Lesnar threw him out. Reigns matched that total in under 16 minutes. He turned on his cousin Jey Uso shortly after coming in, eliminated The Miz, Jacob Fatu, Uso and Logan Paul, and won when he speared Gunther and sent him over. Reigns is now advertised for the WarGames show in Houston on November 28, which we covered in our WarGames match history.
