Bronson Reed Explains Why He Lost 50 Pounds During His Injury Layoff

· 2 min read

Reed says the change after his biceps tear was about staying in WWE's main event picture and protecting his joints after two serious injuries.

Bronson Reed says he lost about 50 pounds while he was out with a torn biceps, and that he did it so WWE could not leave him out of the main event picture again. In a recent radio interview, the Australian said two serious injuries had already pulled him away from the top of the card, and he wanted to come back in a shape that would keep him there.

What Reed said about the weight loss

"For me, it was just to be undeniable," Reed said. He added that he has always seen himself in WWE's main event scene and has reached it before, but injuries kept taking that spot away from him.

He also talks about the change as a way to stay healthy. With less weight on his frame, he said, "my ligaments, my joints, everything feels better as well," and he called it "almost injury prevention at the same time as making yourself faster and stronger" for what he does in the ring. His in-ring knowledge was never the problem in his own view, so the body was the thing he chose to work on.

Reed changed how he trained and tightened his diet at home, working with a coach from Australia. Being injured helped with the food side, he said, because eating properly is hard on the road. "I was able to drop 50 pounds in the time that I was off," he said.

That figure covers the layoff only. In a WWE video posted after his return, Reed said he weighed 365 pounds at his heaviest, when he came back to the company at the end of 2022, and expected to be around 265 to 270 pounds by the time he was back. In the same video he said that "if you don't evolve, you die, especially in this business," and that while he was gone he thought of it as someone having taken his spot.

The injuries behind the change

Reed suffered a distal biceps tear in his right arm on the February 23, 2026 episode of Raw, shortly before Elimination Chamber, and confirmed on February 27 that he had undergone surgery. Before that he missed time with a foot injury in 2025. He has said he was set for a featured match at each of the last two WrestleManias and lost both to those injuries.

Return and the Oba Femi feud

Reed came back at Sunday Night's Main Event on September 6. After The Vision's interference cost Bron Breakker his match with Oba Femi by disqualification, Reed hit Femi from behind with a steel chair, and he and Breakker kept up the attack with Tsunamis and spears until officials pulled them away.

The feud ended in a singles match at Money in the Bank in New Orleans on October 10, and Femi won it in a little over 11 minutes. The Vision got involved again. Logan Paul was thrown out for bringing a chair to the ring, and Reed later hit Femi with brass knuckles, but Femi kicked out of a Tsunami, Reed missed a moonsault, and Femi finished him with Fall From Grace.
