Silva wins the vacant flyweight title

The belt was open because Valentina Shevchenko gave it up about a month before the event, citing back and shoulder injuries. Silva took the early rounds with fast, varied striking and dropped Wang with a head kick in the second. She kept scoring with kicks through the middle of the fight while Wang chased her. Wang came on strong in the fifth round, too late to change the result.

The win extended Silva's streak to eight straight, a run that includes three former UFC champions. "This is incredible for me. I have worked hard for this moment and now I am the new champion," she said afterward. Dana White thought Wang left it too late: "I think if she had stepped on the gas a little earlier, it would have been a completely different fight."

No first challenger has been named. Shevchenko's return date is unclear, and the winner of an upcoming bout between Erin Blanchfield and Jasmine Jasudavicius is widely seen as next in line.

Talbott runs through Figueiredo

Talbott dropped the former flyweight champion with one of the first punches he landed and kept punching until the referee stepped in at 2:09 of the first round. He came in off wins over Felipe Lima and Henry Cejudo, and he used his post-fight interview to call out Sean O'Malley. O'Malley later replied that he had never been offered the fight.

The rest of the main card

Ribovics finished King Green late in the first round for a second straight win over a 40-year-old veteran after beating Edson Barboza last time out. He missed weight for the bout. Roberto Soldic, a former KSW champion, won a clear decision over Khaos Williams in his UFC debut. Roman Kopylov opened the main card by stopping Ateba Gautier with punches at 3:12 of the first round.

Prelim notes

Johnny Walker moved up to heavyweight and needed less than one round to knock out Mick Parkin, landing a jumping knee and then a knee from the clinch. Alexander Hernandez beat a former champion for the first time. Rafael dos Anjos, back after three years away and several knee operations, had the better of the first round, but Hernandez dropped him with a jab early in the second and finished him with a hook as he tried to get up. Dos Anjos left his gloves in the cage, which some took as a sign of retirement. He did not give an interview, and nothing has been confirmed.

Marvin Vettori lost for the fifth fight in a row. Ismail Naurdiev hurt him with a right hand in the second round and held on through a tired third to take all three cards 29-28. Jacobe Smith moved to 13-0 by stopping debutant Bruce Whitehead at 1:32. Earlier in that fight Smith landed an accidental knee to the groin that left Whitehead on the canvas in obvious pain. After the restart, Smith slammed him and finished with ground strikes. Anthony Wint's 23-second stoppage of Lucas Armand was the fastest finish of the night.

UFC 332 bonuses

Four fighters earned $100,000 Performance of the Night bonuses: Johnny Walker, Damian Pinas, Imanol Rodriguez and Roman Kopylov. Seven more winners each received a $25,000 finish bonus: Payton Talbott, Esteban Ribovics, Marcus McGhee, Anthony Wint, Jacobe Smith, Alexander Hernandez and Eric Nolan.

Attendance at the Delta Center was 16,492, with a live gate of $2.7 million. The nine first-round stoppages are widely reported as a modern-era UFC record for a single card, beating the previous mark of seven.
