Yota Tsuji kept the IWGP Heavyweight Championship by beating Hirooki Goto in the main event of NJPW Destruction in Kobe on September 27, 2026, at Kobe World Memorial Hall. Gabe Kidd also retained the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against Drilla Moloney, while Shun Skywalker took the NJPW World Television Championship from Konosuke Takeshita, the only title change of the night. The show drew 4,870 fans and streamed on NJPW World.

The card changed the day before the show. Yuya Uemura and Yushin Hatazawa withdrew through illness and Kosei Fujita pulled out with a right knee injury, so NJPW canceled the kickoff match and cut the fourth match from a six-man tag down to Wolf and Taichi against TMDK.

Tsuji survives Goto in 24 minutes

This was Tsuji's first defense since he won the title back at Dominion 6.14 in June. Goto earned the shot by beating him during G1 Climax 36 on July 18, and the rematch was made official at the tournament's final show in August.

The closing stretch was a long run of reversals and near falls. Tsuji got Goto with Gene Blasters, a Guerrero Special and a first Fire Blaster without keeping him down, then hit the Fire Blaster a second time for the pin at 24:01.

Ryohei Oiwa watched the match from ringside. He won G1 Climax 36 on August 16 at Ryogoku Kokugikan, beating Uemura by submission in a final that went over 35 minutes, and that win earned him a shot at the top title. He and Tsuji came face to face after the bell, and their match is set for King of Pro-Wrestling on October 12 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Oiwa had already made Taichi tap earlier in the night.

Kidd keeps the Global title and finds his next challenger

Moloney got his shot by beating Kidd in their G1 Climax 36 block match. In Kobe he hit his Drilla Killa finisher, but the referee had been knocked down and could not count. With the official still out, Kidd hit Moloney with the title belt and then won with a fisherman buster.

Kidd then told the crowd he would not be back in NJPW until the Tokyo Dome show in January. Shota Umino came out to confront him, and after a heated exchange Umino dropped him with a lariat. NJPW announced the next day that Kidd will defend the title against Umino at King of Pro-Wrestling, so he will not be waiting until January after all.

Skywalker takes the TV title with House of Torture's help

Skywalker joined NJPW in August after his time in DragonGate and lined up with House of Torture. Ren Narita and Dick Togo got involved throughout his challenge to Takeshita. Narita provided a distraction, Skywalker threw white powder into Takeshita's eyes and then hit Skyfall twice for the win. House of Torture kept up the attack on Takeshita afterward until Toru Yano came out to make the save.

Two days later, Skywalker said in a Japanese newspaper interview that he was considering giving up the title and possibly leaving NJPW. "I have already achieved the goal I set when I returned from the heavens," he said. He has not announced any decision.

Takagi beats Castagnoli and the rest of the card

Shingo Takagi got his win over Claudio Castagnoli of AEW. The match came out of the July 2 episode of AEW Collision, where Castagnoli and PAC beat Takagi and Moloney. Takagi blamed that loss for a poor G1 run that left him near the bottom of his block, issued the challenge after the G1 finals and got an answer from Castagnoli by video on September 9. In Kobe, Takagi blocked a Ricola Bomb attempt, came back with a hurricanrana and finished it with Last of the Dragon.

Callum Newman beat Jeff Cobb after a low blow behind the referee's back, followed by Make Way. In the opener, Umino knocked out Dick Togo with an elbow strike and pinned him after Second Chapter, so he scored a pinfall on House of Torture before his confrontation with Kidd later in the evening.

After Unbound Co. beat United Empire, Great-O-Khan and HENARE brawled with the winners. Yuto-Ice accused both of doing too little with their tag titles and called out Will Ospreay. NJPW has since booked United Empire (Ospreay, Great-O-Khan and HENARE) to defend the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship against Yuto-Ice, OSKAR and a partner still to be named at King of Pro-Wrestling.

What Destruction in Kobe sets up

King of Pro-Wrestling on October 12 at Ryogoku Kokugikan now has these title matches:

  • IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Yota Tsuji (c) vs. Ryohei Oiwa
  • IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship: Gabe Kidd (c) vs. Shota Umino
  • NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship: United Empire (Will Ospreay, Great-O-Khan and HENARE) (c) vs. Unbound Co. (Yuto-Ice, OSKAR and a partner to be named)
  • NEVER Openweight Championship: Aaron Wolf (c) vs. Kosei Fujita

Fujita was still listed for the Wolf match after he pulled out of Kobe with a knee injury, and NJPW has not said whether he will be cleared in time. No first defense has been announced for Skywalker's TV title.
